Alchemy Systems Advanced Server Monitoring Service (AMS) allows us to proactively monitor hundreds of parameters on clients’ file servers 24 x 7 and be alerted to issues often preventing costly down time by being able to take action before an event becomes critical. Checks are run every 15 minutes on server health and daily events also reported ensuring activities such as backups and antivirus updates are successful. AMS only requires a small program loaded on each file server and a tiny amount of remote access bandwidth. Many other systems require additional hardware on site only increasing the complexity of the network.
Alchemy’s service desk monitors all activities via a dedicated digital dashboard, this shows in real time the condition of all monitored equipment and every event triggers a colour coded and sound alarm. We also receive email and SMS broadcasts of every critical event ensuring instant action can be taken. Furthermore daily and weekly reports are available to analyse trends.
In summary AMS includes the following monitoring :
- Internet connectivity so you’re alerted when systems can’t connect
- Server Performance Monitoring that alerts you to problems with processor utilisation, processor queue length, memory usage, network interface usage and physical disk performance.
- Bandwidth checks that alert you to situations where bandwidth constraints may be causing performance issues.
- PING tests on network devices including printers, routers, remote office and more.
- Any Windows service that fails including Exchange and any other service.
- Disk space thresholds to ensure they won’t crash into their limit.
- TCP port checks on your client’s server, on any external server and even ISP services such as SMTP, IMAP, POP3 or FTP.
- RAID health/SNMP checks to make sure all disks are working properly. Or use this check to monitor any SNMP -enabled device.
- File Size Check to monitor the size of files or directories.
- Round-the-clock checks on your websites.
- Bespoke Event Log Check to monitor event logs and get alerts when specific events are – or are not – discovered.

- Disk Space Check – Alerts you if it rises above your threshold.
- TCP Port Monitoring – Monitors any TCP ports at their ISP or on the server.
- PING Checks – Checks status of network devices, remote offices or remote devices.
- File Size Check – Monitors files of any type and alerts you if they exceed or fall below your set thresholds.
- Website Check – Ensures client sites are working properly.
- SNMP Checks inc. RAID Array Checks – Configure any SNMP check. Pre-configured RAID health-checks.
- Server Performance Monitoring Checks – Processor Utilisation Check, Processor Queue Length Check, Network Interface Utilisation Check and Physical Disk Check.
- Bandwidth Check – Get alerted to high usage.
- Daily Backup Check – Alerts you to problems on Backup jobs.
- Daily Anti-Virus Check – Alerts you if AV pattern files are out-of date.
- Multiple Exchange Stores Check – Checks the size of multiple information stores and ensures you never crash into your SBS limits.
- Disk Growth Rate Check – Alerts you if growth rates exceed your limit in a 24-hour period.
- Critical Event Checks – Reports critical events across all clients on one single easy-to-read report. And you can filter for ‘not- so-critical’ events too.
- Disk Health Check – Checks smart disk alerts and warns if disks are failing.
- Hacker Check – Alerts you to unauthorised access attempts to client systems.
- File Size Check – Monitors files of any type and alerts you if they exceed or fall below your set thresholds.
- Event Log Check – Monitors for event occurrences that are – or are not – detected.
- WSUS – alerts you when critical updates haven’t been installed.
Daily Safety Checks
They run once-a-day and spot small problems which – while not affecting a clients’ ability to work right now – could turn into big disasters if left unattended.
