Important Office 365 customer announcement.

What is being changed and why?

For the last few years Microsoft have offered two overlapping unified communications solutions. The newer of the two; Microsoft Teams has now absorbed and surpassed all of the features from Skype for Business. As a result the older software is being phased out.

Who will this effect?

Anyone currently using Skype for Business as part of Office 365 will need to transition over to Teams.

If you are using Skype for Business Server on premise (not via Office 365) this will continue to be supported.

If you are already using Teams no action is required.

When is this taking place?

Starting on November the 1st Microsoft will start retiring Skype for Business in favour of Microsoft Teams.

What is different about Microsoft Teams?

Skype for Business was focused around text, voice and video chats. In addition to this Microsoft Teams is designed to be a modern workspace where all of your documents, projects and external content can be pulled together in one place

1. A hub for teamwork

Microsoft Teams is a chat-centered workspace in Office 365. It brings people, conversations, files, and tools into one place, so everyone has instant access to everything they need.

2. Bring your team together

Chat privately one-on-one or have instant group conversations. Join meetings with HD audio and video. All in one place instead of multiple apps.

3. Customize your workspace

Tailor your workspace with apps like PowerPoint, Planner, SharePoint, and Power BI; and get notifications and content from dozens of services—Trello, GitHub, Adobe Creative Cloud, SurveyMonkey, and many more.
